Summer and Fall Jewelry Trends for 2005

Summer and fall fashions are continuing along the neutral and pale-colored trend we've seen during the past year. Jewelry manufacturers are ready for the look, offering plenty of options to help you either spice up your colors in a big way or blend with the neutrals for a more subdued appearance.

Think bold, random and asymmetrical this year. Go for big, brightly colored beads in long strands that drape around your neck, or pick shorter necklaces made with an assortment of bead sizes and styles.

Slip some bangles around your wrist and don't worry if they don't "match." Try metal bangles stacked on either side of brassy-looking versions--or mix them with colors that reveal your own style.

Rings are bold too. Put away your narrow band with a gemstone on top and try a wide band made from natural materials or from chunks of molten glass.

Pearl is a really popular jewelry component this summer, but it works any time of year. You'll see it in colors ranging from subtle pastels to brighter and bolder shades, all with that deep iridescent glow that pearl is so famous for. It's the perfect time to try one of these pearl necklaces and bracelets.

Accessories 2005

2005 has marked another great year for jewelry. The accessory turned out in bold, dynamic styling and commanded the attention, taking center stage in the accessories department. New designers emerged on the scene and gained popularity, while veterans Marni and Miu Miu  stole the spotlight on the high end. Materials and lengths complimented Summer’s hippie vibe, with plenty of stones, metals, woods and natural fibers. Necklaces and bracelets were the must-haves, all in dynamic styles that balanced the season’s flowing pant and skirt styles.

This coming Fall marks a similar vibe, with necklaces and bracelets returning in full force, this time around in more sophisticated (though still powerful) and shown with a wide range of necklines. There has been a surge of new designers on the scene and new styles are everywhere.

New Trends

Fall’s color palette is still intense and earthy, but the overall season has a more sophisticated vibe. The free-wheeling, natural and spiritual feel of Spring and Summer is now more contained, buttoned up and polished, and jewelry for the season has risen to the occasion with a range of complimentary styles. Beads are in new shapes and combined with metals or fabrics and suedes, while bangles have fattened up from the skinny grouped styles and are now bold and commanding, shown in teams of two and three on the wrist. Metals are primarily seen in brushed but bright gold and vintage pewter,
while the overall color palette is darker and richer. Pendants are bold again in coins, tassles and keys, shown on longer chains, in complex layers and other unique combinations.

Trends that are returning include long lengths, dynamic styles and heavy weight, as well as in natural materials – wood, metal, stone, rope, suede, etc. Designers are showing them worn with a wide range of necklines – Some designers paired long necklaces with crewneck and fur collars, while some laid
them atop of collars on button up silk shirts, which means you can get away with wearing a long necklace style with a turtleneck shirt or sweater – Fall 2005 jewelry is all about the volume.

Beads Updated

Beads are reworked in mixed shapes (rectangles, ovals, flat stones, etc.) and combined with natural materials including fabrics and suedes or spaced wide on metal chains and shown with pretty fall shirts and sweaters. Lengths continue to be long, but the feel is much breezier and loose – pieces are spaced further apart or have contrast shapes to give depth and detail. Wood, metals and stones still continue to be popular, but are in deeper, moodier colors like stormy blue and rich green.

Also keep an eye out for large link styles – either together in metals  or combined with beads and other elements. Definitely it’s a very cool look for the season.

Cluster Necklaces

Cluster pendants are being seen again, with new styles combining stones and beads in addition to a return of last season’s metal pendants and gems. Collections are shown on longer chains that dangle at the chest or belly, worn over sweaters and tops or peeking out from underneath blazers. A lot of collections in stores paired up cute animal pendants like starfish or elephants with gems and other
items – very fun for casual outfits.

Bold Pendants

There is also a return of large, bold pendants worn on longer chains and beaded necklaces.Expect to see everything from metals to velvet to silky cord as we move deeper into the Fall season.

Other great pendant styles coming on the scene include large gold leaves and stones shaped in teardrop styles, as well as a return of keys, large lockets and medallions.

Giant Bracelets

Bangles are making a return but they’re oversized and dynamic. Nearly every store is showing something in a huge style...
